Here are some basic settings of Ember explained

Supported XBMC naming conventions in Ember

With the new Expert-Settings in Ember 1.4.x you can customize Ember to read/produce the necessary files (nfo,image,trailer..) you want. Since the most asked question for XBMC users is how to configure Ember for FRODO support, we will explain the settings using FRODO naming conventions.

Accepted FRODO Naming Conventions

For Frodo-Support you have the choice between 2 basic naming conventions which are explained below:

Method 1: Recommended XBMC 12 (Frodo) file naming convention [EMBER FRODO Setting]

This is the recommended naming scheme in Ember because this is the format of XBMC database export structure. If you check the "Frodo" Checkbox in Ember Settings this is what you get - the advantage of using this naming convention is that you can use the database import function to quickly rebuild your XBMC database.

Movies
Single moviefile, i.e movie "Avatar":'
Avatar (movie folder)
-------> Avatar.avi
-------> Avatar-poster.jpg
-------> Avatar-fanart.jpg
-------> Avatar-trailer.avi

-------> .actors (subfolder of movie folder)
-------> -------> first name_last name.jpg

-------> extrathumbs (subfolder of movie folder)
-------> -------> thumb1.jpg
-------> -------> thumb2.jpg

Split movies, multiple parts/cd's:'
Avatar (movie folder)
-------> Avatar CD1.avi
-------> Avatar CD2.avi
-------> Avatar.nfo
-------> Avatar-poster.jpg
-------> Avatar-fanart.jpg
-------> Avatar-trailer.avi

-------> .actors (subfolder of movie folder)
-------> -------> first name_last name.jpg

-------> extrathumbs (subfolder of movie folder)
-------> -------> thumb1.jpg
-------> -------> thumb2.jpg

VIDEO_TS files in moviefolder (no "VIDEO_TS" folder!):'
Avatar (movie folder)
-------> VIDEO_TS.IFO (+ all other dvd files)
-------> VIDEO_TS.nfo
-------> poster.jpg
-------> fanart.jpg
-------> VIDEO_TS-trailer.avi

-------> .actors (subfolder of movie folder)
-------> -------> first name_last name.jpg

-------> extrathumbs (subfolder of movie folder)
-------> -------> thumb1.jpg
-------> -------> thumb2.jpg

VIDEO_TS files in "VIDEO_TS" folder:'
Avatar (movie folder)
-------> poster.jpg
-------> fanart.jpg

-------> VIDEO_TS (subfolder of movie folder)
-------> -------> VIDEO_TS.IFO (+ all other dvd files)
-------> -------> VIDEO_TS.nfo
-------> -------> VIDEO_TS-trailer.avi

-------> -------> .actors (subfolder of VIDEO_TS folder)
-------> -------> -------> first name_last name.jpg

-------> -------> extrathumbs (subfolder of VIDEO_TS folder)
-------> -------> -------> thumb1.jpg
-------> -------> -------> thumb2.jpg

BR-Rips with BDMV folder:'
Avatar (movie folder)
-------> poster.jpg
-------> fanart.jpg

-------> BDMV (subfolder of movie folder)
-------> -------> index.bdmv
-------> -------> index.nfo
-------> -------> index-trailer.avi

-------> -------> .actors (subfolder of BDMV folder)
-------> -------> -------> first name_last name.jpg

-------> -------> extrathumbs (subfolder of BDMV folder)
-------> -------> -------> thumb1.jpg
-------> -------> -------> thumb2.jpg

-------> -------> STREAM (subfolder of BDMV folder)
-------> -------> -------> 00000.m2ts (+ more with rising numbers)

-------> -------> CERTIFICATE (subfolder of BDMV folder)
-------> -------> -------> some files

Method 2: Alternative XBMC 12 (Frodo) file naming convention [Folder based]

The following naming convention is also supported for FRODO. It's basically the same as above scheme but instead of using the filename of the movie, files are named:

movie.nfo
poster.jpg
fanart.jpg

Since Ember doesn't use this naming by default, you have to use Expert-Settings to use this scheme:

Alternative FRODO Naming Scheme
Alternative FRODO Naming Scheme

Tip: You can leave NFO/Poster/Fanart checked in "Frodo" Tab in case you want Ember to save those additional files besides the one you configure in Expert Tabs.

Some other settings explained

Expert Settings

- In this section you can use <filename> as placeholder for filenames!

- In trailer-field you are NOT allowed to write extension with filename

- ClearLogo, DiscArt, Clearart:
File extension should be .png (because otherwise you will loose transparency)

Protect VIDEO_TS and BDMV structure(FRODO Tab)

If you leave this unchecked Ember will save nfo, poster and fanart files inside the BDMV(Bluray)/VIDEO_TS(DVD) folder which might not be desirable for some people who don't want to mess with the structure of videodata. If you tick this setting, Ember will place those 3 files in the movie-folder (above BDMV/VIDEO_TS). XBMC will read the files either way - your choice. Notice: Trailer, extrathumbs, extrafanarts and actor thumbs aren't affected by this setting and will still saved inside VIDEO_TS/BDMV folder.

Use Base directory(Expert Tab)

It's similar to the Frodo setting Protect VIDEO_TS and BDMV structure but with this enabled ALL files will be saved outside VIDEO_TS/BDMV folder. WARNING: At the moment XBMC cannot use/detect files other than movie.nfo/fanart.jpg/poster.jpg outside VIDEO_TS/BDMV folder! This means, extrathumbs, actor thumbs, trailer won't be detected in XBMC using this setting! Maybe this will be fixed later by XBMC team.

Recognize VIDEO_TS

With this enabled, Ember will try to detect DVD folders even if they aren't named "VIDEO_TS". If this settings is unchecked than scanned folders will be recognized as "Single" and treated like you configured in "Single" Tab.
Single = Every movie in it's own folder and only one movie will be recognized for each folder
Multi = All movies in same directory, here you should only use files which are named as <filename> since filename likes movie.nfo will be overwritten by next scanned movie!

XBMC Trailer Format

Save URL/Link for Youtube Trailer in a format that can be used by XBMC-YouTube-Plugin, example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7ahIGLNNwo will be saved in .nfo as plugin://plugin.video.youtube/?action=play_video&videoid=K7ahIGLNNwo

Note: Ember/XBMC can manage trailersupport in 2 ways: trailerlink in nfo and/or local trailer! These are two different things: - Trailer Link in Data Scrapers will fill a link / URL to NFO. If you have enabled "Youtube Plugin Trailer Format", Ember does change all YouTube links to a link that will start the XBCM addon YouTube. - If you want a local trailer file, you need to enable "Trailer Support" in "Scrapers - Trailers" and also enable one of the trailer scrapers.

The two things have nothing to do with each other. Disable "Trailer" in global data scraper settings if you don't want trailer links in NFO.

Stack Filename

If enabled, files will be stacked, example: "Lord of Rings CD1" will be renamed to "Lord of the Rings"

also save unstacked

This can be used together woth Stack Filename setting. If enabled the original/unstacked file ("CD1") will be saved together with the stacked file.
